Election to Be Held Within 60 Days Following Death of Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization Chief

The Nonthaburi Election Commission is preparing to hold an election within 60 days following the death of the Nonthaburi PAO Chief, or by 9 October 2026. There will be no new election for PAO council members.

On 10 Aug 2026, reporters reported that Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert, Chief of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, was shot dead by Mr. Chalerm Ruearngraeng, a former Member of Parliament. Police investigators at Rattanathibet Police Station in Nonthaburi sent the body for a detailed autopsy at the Forensic Science Institute, Police Hospital. After the autopsy, the family will take the body for religious funeral rites at Wat Saphan Sung in Khlong Phra Udom Subdistrict, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi.

Ms. Chuleeporn Chanbaipad, Director of the Nonthaburi Provincial Election Commission Office, said that following the shooting death of Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert, Chief of the Nonthaburi PAO, the Election Commission must hold an election to fill the vacancy within 60 days, or by 9 October 2026 from the date of death. The PAO council members of Nonthaburi remain in office, so only the PAO Chief position will be up for election.

Initial discussions have been held with Mr. Natthapoom Nontasirikul, Secretary of the Nonthaburi PAO, who will serve as local election director for the Nonthaburi PAO election, regarding the election date. However, further consultations are needed because of various regulations, but they will expedite announcing the candidate registration date and the election day as soon as possible.

Ms. Chuleeporn added that after the death of the PAO Chief, the three deputy PAO Chiefs will immediately vacate their positions as well. The PAO Secretary will serve as the acting PAO Chief.
