Water levels in the Mae Taeng River, Chiang Mai, have risen. The Saen family elephant village moved their elephants to 'Elephant Shelter Hill,' a higher area, preparing for tonight's rain and established a 24-hour monitoring team.
At 15:50 on 10 August 2026, the mahouts and caretakers of the Saen family elephant village in Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai, reported that water levels in the Mae Taeng River, which flows through the elephant-raising area, have started to rise again after previously dropping enough to allow clearing and restoration of the surroundings.
Caretakers said they are now prepared to handle the situation 24 hours a day, closely monitoring water levels due to the risk of further rises if rain falls in the upstream and surrounding areas. Valuable items and assets have been moved and stored in safe locations to minimize damage if flooding occurs again.
Regarding elephant care, all elephants have been moved to 'Elephant Shelter Hill,' an elevated area, to protect them from rising water levels in the Mae Taeng River. Staff and caretakers continue to monitor and are ready to relocate more elephants if the situation changes.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that rain clouds have covered Mae Taeng District this evening, with a chance of rain tonight. The elephant care team is continuously monitoring the situation and preparing response plans in case of heavy rain or rapid water level increases.
Currently, all elephants have been moved to safe areas, and the care team remains on duty around the clock to closely monitor the situation and ensure the elephants' safety.
