The National Water Resources Office (NWRO) has issued a warning for eight provinces along the Mekong River to monitor sudden rises in water levels from 11 to 15 August, especially in low-lying riverside areas in several districts of Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan provinces.
On 10 August 2026, the Facebook page ofthe National Water Resources Officeposted that the NWRO has been continuously monitoring the Mekong River situation and found heavy to very heavy rainfall in northeast Thailand and central areas of Lao PDR. It forecasts that the water levels in the Mekong River are likely to rise by 0.5 to 1.5 meters between 11 and 15 August 2026, from Chiang Khan district in Loei province to Khong Chiam district in Ubon Ratchathani province.
It therefore requests related agencies and provinces along the Mekong River to inform the public and closely monitor the sudden rise in water levels in the Mekong River, exercising caution in water travel and activities on the river.
They should also prepare flood prevention measures along the riverbanks in eight provinces along the Mekong, especially in low-lying riverside areas including Tha Uthen, That Phanom, Ban Phaeng, and Mueang districts of Nakhon Phanom province, and Don Tan, Mueang, and Wan Yai districts of Mukdahan province.
