Free of charge for all services provided. "Dr. Sonthaya" has opened a free treatment clinic. on "National Mother's Day." This marks the 31st consecutive year, with plans to continue for only one more year before closing the clinic, while passing on his mission to his children.
On 12 August 2026 GMT+7, reporters noted that at Dr. Sonthaya's clinic located at the curve of Sunthorn Thep Road, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province, a large number of people arrived from early morning to receive free medical treatment in observance of National Mother's Day. The atmosphere was lively with patients and community members continuously participating in the event.
The event was organized by Dr. Sonthaya Watthakosol, aged 65, former physician at Buriram Central Hospital and owner of Dr. Sonthaya Clinic, together with a team of doctors, nurses, volunteers, private sector partners, and the people of Buriram. The activity honors Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and this year marks the 31st consecutive year of the event.
During the event, general medical examinations were provided free of charge by teams of doctors and nurses from various provinces. Around the clinic, volunteers and local businesses joined in goodwill activities, offering health massages, free haircuts, portrait drawings, and a food stall distributing meals and drinks to attendees.
Dr. Sonthaya explained that the event was inspired by his desire to perform good deeds as a royal tribute during important royal occasions. Previously, similar events were held on dates such as 18 July, the anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra’s passing, National Father's Day on 5 December, and National Mother's Day on 12 August.
This year marks the 8th time the event has been dedicated to the Queen Mother and is the 44th time since its inception. Over the years, approximately 33,800 patients have received free treatment, and the food stall has served over 200,000 meals. Dr. Sonthaya expressed gratitude to all doctors, nurses, volunteers, private sector partners, and community members for their continuous support.
Dr. Sonthaya added that now at age 65, with increasing physical limitations, he intends to continue the royal tribute activities for only one more year. The final year will be 2027, after which he plans to close the clinic and wishes to pass on his commitment to doing good to his children.
He conveyed his hopes to his daughter, a dentist, saying his only request is for her to help continue the activities, particularly the event on 18 July, an important day related to Princess Srinagarindra.
His son, an obstetrician-gynecologist, is encouraged to continue the mission of charity in honor of His Majesty the King on 28 July should he open a clinic in the future. Dr. Sonthaya hopes that the spirit of helping the public and performing good deeds as royal tributes will persist even without his direct involvement.
