On 12 Aug 2026 at 05:00 a.m., at Rangsee Chatchawan Temple in Somdet District, Kalasin Province, relatives and family held a ceremony to collect the ashes of Mr. Bowornthat Pengsuk, known as "Halun Solo," a well-known backpacking YouTuber who passed away in Georgia. This followed his cremation on 11 Aug, amid the mourning of family, relatives, agencies, and many fans who came to bid farewell. The ashes were prepared according to tradition, with monks invited to sprinkle scented water for good fortune.
Afterward, they held a merit-making ceremony with almsgiving and offered breakfast to the monks at his hometown in Village Four-Way, Village 10, Somdet Subdistrict, Somdet District, Kalasin Province. The ashes were then kept at the temple, and plans were made to scatter some of them in the Mekong River, a long river spanning multiple countries, allowing Halun to journey through a new world as a final farewell to the young man who loved traveling and living freely.
Mr. Sompong Pengsuk, Halun's uncle, said today’s ceremony involved collecting the ashes and holding merit-making at home per tradition, including almsgiving and offering breakfast to monks. Afterward, relatives will discuss possibly scattering some ashes in the Mekong River, a long river crossing several countries, so Halun can continue traveling in the new world he loved. The exact date, place, and details will be decided after consultation.
The remaining ashes will be kept at the temple for a 100-day merit-making ceremony before being passed on to Halun’s father, following tradition. Additionally, the fan-donated fans, goods, and rice will be given to various places to perform merit dedicated to Halun.
