A tragic event in Nakhon Nayok Province: a man fled in a pickup truck after shooting a 35-year-old woman dead in front of her 4-year-old daughter. Police finally captured him. He claimed it was a moment of rage, fueled by resentment after the victim insulted him and accused him of being high on drugs and hallucinating.
At 23:00 on 11 Aug 2026, Police Lieutenant Suriyan Phumivat, investigator at Ban Na Police Station, received a report of a shooting death in front of a car repair shop in Thonglang Subdistrict, Ban Na District, Nakhon Nayok Province. He promptly went to the scene accompanied by Police Colonel Mongkol Toepao, Chief of Ban Na Police Station; Police Lieutenant Wutiphong Jeenim, Deputy Chief of Investigations; Police Lieutenant Thepsin Wijirawat, Deputy Chief Investigator; the duty doctor from Ban Na Hospital; Sawang Ariya Nakhon Nayok Rescue Unit (Bang O station); and the investigation team.
At the scene outside the car repair shop, the body of Ms. Korawika Wivek, also known as Yui, 35, from Pa Kha Subdistrict, Ban Na District, Nakhon Nayok, was found. She had a gunshot wound to the left temple with the bullet lodged inside. She was lying dead wearing a short-sleeved floral shirt and white shorts. Rescue workers took her body for autopsy at Somdet Phra Theprat Ratchasuda Medical Center, Srinakharinwirot University Ongkharak campus.
Interviewing Mr. Wiwat Buakhao, or Chang Pae, 40, owner of the repair shop, he said the victim was the sister-in-law of his partner and had built a small hut on the roadside opposite his garage. Her husband worked in road construction in another province, sending money for his wife and child to use.
Before the incident, Mr. Anon Samrit, 27, arrived at the house in his pickup truck and a verbal dispute broke out. The victim then took her child across the road to seek help. Mr. Wiwat came out to stop the quarrel, telling them to go back and not fight, then picked up his phone to pretend to call someone. Suddenly, he heard a gunshot. He rushed out and saw Ms. Korawika lying dead in front of her 4-year-old daughter, who was crying loudly in shock. Mr. Anon then fled in his pickup truck. The cause of the quarrel was unknown to Mr. Wiwat.
The reporter then went to the victim’s older sister’s house, who sorrowfully revealed that at the time of the incident, Ms. Korawika was eating with her daughter, aged just over 3 years, when Mr. Anon suddenly burst in with a gun, threatening and forcing the victim into his vehicle. The victim resisted and shouted for help, leading to the tragic incident captured on CCTV. She lamented,“Why couldn’t they just talk things over? Doing this, don’t they feel sorry for the child?”
On 12 Aug 2026, the Nakhon Nayok Provincial Police investigation unit and Ban Na investigation team arrested Mr. Anon Samrit, 27, who had fled in a pickup truck but got stuck and was unable to continue, then sought refuge at an acquaintance’s house.
Police took Mr. Anon to reenact the crime at the scene. During the reenactment, the suspect briefly said,“She insulted me and tried to provoke me. It was just a moment of anger. I want to apologize to the victim.”
During the investigation, Mr. Anon claimed he was upset because the victim told others he was high on drugs and hallucinating, damaging his reputation. This fueled his anger, leading to the attack.
However, the victim’s family revealed suspicions and the real cause of the conflict might be that Mr. Anon was jealous and paranoid about the victim’s ex-husband, who had been separated from her for years since their daughter was one year old and was recently arrested for drug offenses about a week ago.
Mr. Anon mistakenly believed Ms. Korawika had informed the police leading to the ex-husband’s arrest. The victim consistently denied any involvement, but the suspect refused to believe her and they often argued.
This aligns with police skepticism about the suspect’s statement. Review of CCTV audio and video showed arguments relating to the police report, though some dialogue was unclear. Authorities are continuing a thorough investigation to uncover the true motive and will proceed with legal action accordingly.
