A 65-year-old man warmed food and left it on the stove before going out to collect scrap, thinking he would be gone briefly. Upon returning, he found his entire house burned down, reduced to ashes.
At approximately 14:35 on 14 Aug 2026, the Trat Municipality fire emergency center (199) received a report of a house fire in Village No. 8, Wang Krachae Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat Province. Upon receiving the report, fire trucks from Wang Krachae Subdistrict Administrative Organization and Trat Municipality, along with the Sawang rescue team, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, fire trucks were actively spraying water to control the blaze amid thick smoke. The house was wooden, and the owner collected scrap materials, which served as good fuel. Firefighters took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.
When interviewed, Mr. Aod, 65, the homeowner, stood watching the remains of his house reduced to ashes with deep sorrow. He said that around 13:30, he had turned on the gas stove to warm food and forgot to turn off the gas before leaving. He went to collect scrap in front of Trat Trakan Khun School, near his home, intending to be gone only briefly—about half an hour—before returning to eat. However, he became absorbed in collecting scrap, and when he returned, he found his house had already burned down.
Neighbor Mrs. Pranom, 55, said she initially saw only a small amount of smoke and went to call Mr. Aod, but he was not home. Soon after, large sparks appeared. They tried to douse the fire with hoses but could not control it, so they quickly called 191 and coordinated with fire trucks. They then hurried to gather valuable belongings to prevent the fire from spreading to their own home.
The chief of Wang Krachae Subdistrict Administrative Organization took initial steps by arranging temporary accommodation for Mr. Aod to stay in.
