22nd Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale Opens, Reinforcing Thailands Leadership in Exotic Plants

The 22nd Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale opened, reinforcing Thailand's image as the “Garden of the World.”

On 15 August 2026, reports confirmed that Thailand once again affirmed its leadership in rare and exotic plants worldwide with the grand return of the event. The 22nd Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale, themed “Orchids & Terrarium Plant.” This event was honored by Mr. Jadeth Chantra, Assistant Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Ms. Thanyathita Boonyamaneekul, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, who presided over the opening ceremony at Chaeng Watthana Hall, 5.5th floor, Central Chaeng Watthana.

Mr. Sanpasiri Chaowanwanich, Show Director and expert in exotic and rare plants, revealed that the 22nd event reaffirmed Thailand's image as the “Garden of the World.” and a key center for exotic plants important to the economy.

Mr. Sanpasiri emphasized the event's significance: “Thailand has great potential as a top global producer of exotic plants, thanks to the expertise of Thai agricultural entrepreneurs skilled in propagation and variety. This event serves as an important business matching platform between Thai producers and buyers worldwide, including the U.S., the Netherlands, and Japan, to promote exotic plants as ‘green assets’ generating substantial economic value.”

The standout highlight was the presentation of the “Terrarium” concept—growing plants in enclosed systems—a global trend popular for its fit with young people’s lifestyles living in condominiums or limited spaces, supporting environmental quality and life quality. Terrariums act as “living furniture” that promotes focus and relaxation, reduces work stress, and economically offer high value with minimal space, ideal for new entrepreneurs to generate sustainable income.

To showcase the development and beauty of plant art, the event held a Terrarium contest judged by four international standards: rarity of plant species used, artistic design and composition, plant health and completeness, and the overall impression on viewers. This contest was not just a competition but also a platform to inspire and elevate Thai entrepreneurs’ skills to international recognition.

The first prize winner was Jesadakorn Sae-Ung, owner of Variegated Zone Thailand, who created a “living furniture” piece with an open-system terrarium highlighting the natural colors of carnivorous plants. His work took over a year and a half to cultivate various carnivorous species, including Pinguicula, Nepenthes, and Heliamphora, integrated with moss to create a lush natural look. The setup maintained a constant temperature of 20-21 degrees Celsius with automatic misting and WRGB 2 lighting to enhance red, purple, and green tones. Jesadakorn described terrarium design as both art and a sentimental collection, reflecting the skill of Thai hybrid plant developers and establishing Thailand as a major exotic plant market center.

“For me, creating plant terrariums is like collecting sacred amulets or cherished items, but this is a living collection where we can continuously add new exotic plants, demonstrating confidence in Thai expertise in hybrid development. This has elevated Thailand to a key global exotic plant market center. This event is a great opportunity to see a wide variety of rare plants from around the world gathered in one place,” Jesadakorn explained.

Over the 22 editions, the event has proven the strong growth of Thailand's exotic plant industry, with established producers enhancing plant beauty and newcomers adding vibrancy to the market.

The public who cherish the wonders of nature are invited to experience rare plants from around the world and support Thailand’s full emergence as a global exotic plant hub at the 22nd Bangkok International Exotic Plants Show & Sale from 14-16 August 2026, 09:00-20:00, at Chaeng Watthana Hall, 5.5th floor, Central Chaeng Watthana.
