On 17 August 2026, Warrant Officer Chan Narong Wongsana, also known as "Jao Jo," aged 37, from the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, King's Guard, was severely injured after stepping on a PMN 2 landmine. The blast caused serious wounds to his legs and both hands. After the incident, the military unit urgently transported him to Nam Yuen Hospital and coordinated with the Sky Doctor team from the 2nd Army Region (Veerawattayothin Camp Hospital) to transfer him for emergency surgery at Sanpasitthiprasong Hospital in Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
Due to multiple complex emergency wounds, a medical team was assembled to work simultaneously, conducting surgery in three teams led by Colonel Surang Witayawongsaruchi, Director of Sanpasitthiprasong Hospital, Colonel Kongkiat Ingkanan, Commander of the 22nd Military Engineer Battalion, and Captain Supawan Boonnan, surgeon, along with other medical staff and nurses.
The continuous surgery lasted 3 hours and 35 minutes. The medical team repaired wounds and fractured bones on four fingers of the right hand—the thumb, index, ring, and little fingers. On the left hand, they repaired the index finger and reinforced the fractured little finger with metal rods. They also operated on wounds on both legs and the left ankle. The emergency surgeries were successfully completed.
As of 18 August 2026, reporters reported that Warrant Officer Chan Narong has been moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Sanpasitthiprasong Hospital, where doctors and nurses are closely monitoring him due to ongoing pain in the left ankle operated on.
Major General Akaraphon Moolpradub, Advisor to the Director of the Veterans Assistance Organization, along with the Deputy Head of the Ubon Ratchathani Veterans Assistance Office and family members, visited and offered encouragement at his bedside. The medical plan is to keep him in recovery for two weeks to evaluate his condition before transferring him to Phra Mongkutklao Hospital for rehabilitation and further treatment.
