Meteorological Department Announcement No. 7: Check list of provinces at risk "Heavy to very heavy rain" In upper Thailand, with sea waves 2-3 meters high, effective until 21 Aug 2026

On 18 August 2026, the websiteMeteorological Departmentissued Announcement No. 7 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand (effective until 21 August 2026), stating that from 18-21 August 2026, some areas in Thailand, especially in the northern and northeastern regions, will experience heavy to very heavy rain. This is due to a monsoon trough crossing the northern and upper northeastern regions, combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Residents in these areas are advised to beware of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff. Those in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands should avoid traveling on frequently flooded routes, especially low-lying areas prone to short-term flooding.

The upper Andaman Sea will experience fairly strong winds from 19-21 August 2026, with waves 2-3 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves about 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters where thunderstorms occur. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during these days.

For safety and to reduce potential impacts, residents are advised to plan their activities and travel cautiously during this period, follow announcements from the Meteorological Department, and check updates on the department's website.http://www.tmd.go.thor call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.
