Provincial Councilor Supports Municipality in Managing Highway Lighting and Medians to Reduce Crime and Accidents

A provincial councilor supports the municipality in managing highway lighting and medians to enhance operational efficiency and reduce crime and accidents, increasing responsiveness.

On 19 August 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Noppadol Ladda-yaem (Councilor Tui), former Pathum Thani Provincial Council member, accompanied by media, visited Bang Kuwat Municipality in Mueang District, Pathum Thani. This municipality is a model area entrusted with managing highway medians and lighting by the Department of Highways. The visit followed an MOU signed on 22 December 2025 GMT+7 between Bang Kuwat Municipality and the Nonthaburi Highway District, Department of Highways, transferring responsibility for Highway 345 at km 7+705—within Bang Kuwat Municipality's jurisdiction—to the local government for landscaping, sidewalk maintenance, drainage, and street lighting upkeep.

Councilor Tui said that the Department of Highways delegating duties to the municipality is crucial because local authorities have close access to the area and understand the real issues, enabling faster problem-solving. He noted that the municipality's tasks include weed removal from medians and shoulders, repairing light poles and streetlights, inspecting drainage pipes, and maintaining roadside pavement. "This is not only about making the landscape neat, clean, and beautiful but directly about safety—improving visibility, reducing accident-prone spots, and eliminating dark areas that could foster crime, especially where overgrown grass or shops block the view."

Councilor Tui also praised Bang Kuwat Municipality as a model of systematic management, equipped with both personnel and tools, allowing timely problem resolution.

Meanwhile, Acting Police Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Monpipat Iamcharat, Mayor of Bang Kuwat Municipality, revealed that today, together with the executive committee, council president, and council members, they inspected the intersection at the entrance to Phatariya Village. This location is a frequent accident hotspot due to heavy vehicle traffic entering and exiting the village, combined with vehicles from the main road making U-turns. During rush hours, traffic congestion accumulates, leading to frequent accidents despite traffic police assistance.

The municipality has taken action by coordinating with the highway district and local traffic police to plan improvements at this intersection. Measures include installing warning signs, traffic signals, and clear road markings to maximize safety for Bang Kuwat residents and all road users. This transfer of responsibility enhances the local government's capacity to serve residents more quickly and improves the quality of life and safety on Pathum Thani's main roads.

Regarding the MOU signed on 22 December 2025 GMT+7 between Bang Kuwat Municipality and the Nonthaburi Highway District, Department of Highways, this agreement formalizes the transfer of maintenance responsibility for Highway 345 at km 7+705 to the local administrative organization in Pathum Thani. The municipality had formally requested oversight of this highway segment, which begins at the municipal boundary, covering details in the agreement about landscaping improvements and maintenance of sidewalks, drainage pipes, and street lighting along Highway 345.
