Many devotees participated in the sacred ceremony.
The 2026 charity distribution event marks a historic year for devotees to pay respects to “Luang Pu Tai Hong Jade White,” one of the largest statues in Thailand. Attendees participated in the charity tradition to make merit and dedicate merits to the souls of the unclaimed dead at the Tai Hong Kong Jade White Shrine, a sacred Buddhist site located on a land of faith—an over 120-year-old public cemetery for unclaimed bodies maintained by the Poh Teck Tung Foundation (Wat Don Cemetery). Participants also gave alms to the poor. This year's event at the shrine represents the first major grand merit-making ceremony in more than 100 years.
For the 2026 charity distribution event, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation decided to increase the number of essential supply kits compared to previous years to meet the demand of recipients and address the current rising cost of living. This aims to provide initial relief and reduce household expenses for the needy. The distribution area has expanded to include both Bangkok and other provinces. On 16 Aug 2026, the foundation distributed supplies at the Poh Teck Tung Cemetery in Ban Phaeo District, Samut Sakhon Province. Upcoming distributions are scheduled at the Hua Chiew Chinese Medicine Clinic in Si Racha District, Chonburi, on Tuesday, 25 Aug 2026, and at the Poh Teck Tung Foundation in Plabplachai, Bangkok, on Wednesday, 9 Sep 2026. The foundation also provides supplies to various organizations for distribution during the 2026 charity event across three provinces, totaling 15.8 million baht in aid.
Devotees wishing to participate in the grand merit-making of the 2026 charity distribution event can pay respects to Luang Pu Tai Hong (Tai Hong Kong) and donate rice sets to dedicate merits to both relatives and non-relatives who have passed away, while also giving alms to the poor. Donations are accepted now until 8 Sep 2026 at the Poh Teck Tung Foundation in Plabplachai and online through the “Charity Distribution Online” platform at https://pttfny.net/newsh. The "Tai Hong Kong Jade White Shrine in honor of the 72nd birthday anniversary" is a heritage of compassion and a valuable center for learning ancient Teochew cultural architecture. It serves as a powerful hub of faith on sacred land over 120 years old in central Sathorn. Built on historically sacred land dedicated to gratitude to Thailand, the shrine occupies 4 rai 17 square wah adjacent to the "80th Birthday Anniversary Memorial Garden of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation," a historic site known as "Wat Don Cemetery." In 1899, 710 Chinese community members pooled funds to purchase this land to create a public cemetery for the deceased regardless of social class, caste, ethnicity, or religion. This became the origin of the Tai Hong Kong Funeral Society and Tai Hong Kong Shrine in Plabplachai in 1909-1910, later registered as the Huakiao Poh Teck Siang Tung Foundation (Poh Teck Tung Foundation), meaning "Foundation for repaying the land by doing good deeds through saving, healing, and creating life."
