Water from the southern part of Myawaddy has surged into the town due to the rising Moei River level, causing a massive volume of water to flood Myawaddy town.
Initially, flooding affected villages near the river and low-lying areas, but today the water has inundated the town center. Myanmar residents have moved their belongings to higher ground and other safe locations. Additionally, travel now requires long-tail boats and even fuel drums repurposed as makeshift boats.
Authorities in Myawaddy township are deploying flat-bottomed boats to assist the public, especially patients and the elderly, and to transport people to higher ground. The floodwaters are very deep, submerging many houses and buildings, some halfway underwater. Overall, the flooding is so severe that residents cannot travel by land, and vehicles are unusable; only boats can navigate the area.
