Security Forces Announce Lockdown of Su-ngai Kolok and Tak Bai Following Multiple Violent Incidents in Narathiwat Province

An urgent alert from security forces announced a complete lockdown of Su-ngai Kolok and Tak Bai districts, strictly prohibiting entry and exit. Anyone spotting suspicious individuals, objects, or vehicles is urged to immediately notify the authorities.

On 22 August 2026, the Facebook pageSWT Su-ngai Kolok Newsposted that from around 8:00 p.m. on 22 August 2026, reports emerged of at least five violent incidents occurring.

These took place in Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, where security forces and relevant agencies are currently securing the area, assessing details, and evaluating damage.

Initially, the first incident occurred at the Buke Bu Reo Early Childhood Development Center in Mu Reu Bot Subdistrict, where explosions and gunfire were reported. Damage details and affected individuals are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, at the Bong O Subdistrict Administrative Organization, about 30 armed assailants entered the premises, restrained security personnel, set fire to the building, and stole a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck with license plate 2474 Narathiwat. Initial reports indicate they fled toward Chulabhorn Pattana 5 village; authorities are pursuing the suspects.

Additionally, tire burnings were reported along the route near Mo Sa Wa village, Bong O Subdistrict, as well as near the border between Kampong Pareh village (Moo 8, Mu Reu Bot Subdistrict) and Gu Jing Lue Pa village (Moo 4, Chalerm Subdistrict) around 8:15 p.m., with no injuries reported so far.

Another incident involved the burning of a backhoe near Anae village bridge (Moo 8, Bong O Subdistrict), with damage and circumstances still being examined.

All these incidents occurred nearly simultaneously, prompting authorities to tighten security measures, inspect each site, and track the stolen vehicle taken from the Bong O Subdistrict Administrative Organization.

At 9:40 p.m., security forces announced an urgent alert, locking down the border areas between Su-ngai Kolok and Tak Bai districts, as well as between Su-ngai Kolok and all neighboring districts, temporarily banning all travel in and out.

Similarly, the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command warned that since 8:00 p.m., multiple violent incidents occurred in the area. Officials are investigating and controlling the situation while taking measures to protect the public.

Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid the incident sites and any areas designated by authorities, and refrain from entering these locations to ensure personal safety and avoid hindering official operations.

If encountering suspicious individuals, items, or vehicles, do not approach, touch, or attempt to handle them. Immediately report to authorities or call the 1341 hotline of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command, available 24/7. Citizens are also advised to follow official updates, remain calm, and cooperate in vigilance to safeguard the people of the southern border provinces.
