Late-night disturbances hit the three southern border provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala, with assailants carrying out multiple attacks including bombings and arson at convenience stores and telecommunications signal towers.
On the evening of 22 Aug 2026, Joint Task Force Narathiwat announced a curfew prohibiting residents from leaving their homes from 22:15 that night until 06:00 on 23 Aug 2026, following multiple violent incidents in the area.
Simultaneously, unrest was reported at multiple locations in Pattani Province, where a group of at least 10 armed individuals conducted robberies, bombings, and arson attacks across several areas, causing fires and alarming local residents.
The first incident occurred around 20:45 when more than 10 assailants armed with rifles and handguns stormed a well-known convenience store branch in Bang Pu Subdistrict, Yaring District, Pattani. They fired several shots into the air to intimidate and ordered both customers and staff to evacuate the store.
They then looted merchandise and valuables before planting a bomb inside the store, which detonated and caused a severe fire. There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities from this incident so far.
Around the same time, there were reports of tires being set on fire on roads in Bang Pu Subdistrict, Yaring District, approximately 3 kilometers from the convenience store attack site. Authorities initially suspect these incidents are related due to their proximity in time.
Later, at about 21:00, unknown assailants entered the Bang Khao Subdistrict Administrative Organization building in Nong Chik District, Pattani, and set fire to a vehicle storage facility causing damage. Additionally, tire burnings were reported on roads in Village 3, Mo Mawi Subdistrict, Yarang District, and on Ban Cha Mao Road, Village 2, Nakaet Subdistrict, Khok Pho District, Pattani.
At approximately 22:30, a group of unknown individuals dressed in black with covered faces and armed weapons stormed the Taluban Subdistrict Municipality in Saiburi District, apprehended two security guards, then entered the building and planted a bomb before setting fire to the three-story municipal building, resulting in a fire.
Upon receiving the report, firefighters quickly responded to extinguish the blaze while security forces secured and cordoned off the area to prevent public access and inspected the surroundings for any suspicious or dangerous objects left behind.
Authorities have increased security measures in the area and advised residents to remain indoors and avoid traveling near the affected sites until the investigations and area clearance are complete.
These events occurred amid ongoing unrest in the southern border provinces, with similar incidents reported in Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat on the same night. Officials are currently investigating and working to control the situation across these locations.
Additionally, at 20:00, telecommunications signal towers from both networks and two local administrative organization vehicles were set on fire in Village 4, Ban Hra Subdistrict, Than To District, Yala.
