Heavy Rain in Kanchanaburi Floods Roads in Sangkhla Buri Officials Warn After Popular Bridge Found Damaged

Heavy rain in Kanchanaburi's Sangkhla Buri district has caused severe flooding on Highway 323. Large boulders have fallen from cliff faces beside the road. Meanwhile, the famous Utamanusorn Wooden Bridge tourist attraction has had warning signs posted to alert visitors after damage was discovered.

On 23 August 2026, reporters from Sangkhla Buri, Kanchanaburi, reported that continuous heavy rains over several days caused flooding on Highway 323, the 90-kilometer route from Thong Pha Phum to Sangkhla Buri. Floodwaters reached 40 centimeters deep in two locations near Koeng Wia village, Chalae subdistrict. A large boulder measuring 2 meters high and 3 meters wide fell from a cliff near Prang Phe village. The entire stretch of road suffered damage, with potholes throughout.

At the Utamanusorn Wooden Bridge in Village 2, Nong Lu subdistrict, Sangkhla Buri, a well-known tourist spot, local authorities including Sangkhla Buri district administration, Wang Ka municipality, and Thong Pha Phum disaster prevention officials installed signs to inform the public about the bridge's damage. Visitors are urged to be especially cautious and follow safety advice for their protection.

Police Colonel Santi Phitaksakul, chief of Sangkhla Buri Police Station, ordered officers to be on standby at their posts, prepared for potential emergencies such as flooding, to assist residents promptly. He asked tourists encountering flooded roads or landslides to report immediately by calling 034-595300. Police patrol officers will be dispatched to provide assistance without delay.

Meanwhile, at 14:00, Prathet Boonyong, mayor of Tha Khanun municipality in Thong Pha Phum district, accompanied by Pimnisa Kantha, deputy council president, Athisit Boonmak, municipal council member, and disaster prevention staff, visited affected residents. The prolonged rain since the previous night caused the Ulong Stream to overflow, flooding three homes in Ban Ulong, Village 4, Tha Khanun subdistrict, Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi.

This visit aimed to find immediate solutions to alleviate residents' difficulties. Officials have been assigned to monitor water levels closely around the clock for the community's safety. Sandbags have been placed to block floodwaters from entering homes in the Ban Ulong area.
