The northern water mass has arrived. The Office of Irrigation 12 issued a warning to seven provinces in the Chao Phraya River basin to prepare for the water situation and to monitor closely, expecting water levels to rise by 1 to 1.5 meters.
On 24 Aug 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that Mr. Songkran Chaloesritong, Director of the Office of Irrigation 12, issued the third water situation and management notice to governors of seven provinces in the Chao Phraya River basin: Uthai Thani, Chainat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Lop Buri.
Following monitoring of weather conditions and rainfall-runoff in the upper and basin areas of the Chao Phraya River and its tributaries, it is forecast that water volume will increase with continued rainfall. Currently, floodwaters from the upper Chao Phraya basin flow into the area above the Chao Phraya Dam at an increasing rate.
At water station C.2 in Mueang district, Nakhon Sawan province, the flow rate measured is 936 cubic meters per second flowing into the Chao Phraya Dam, causing the water level above the dam to rise to 15.94 meters above mean sea level. The flow passing through the dam is 450 cubic meters per second. The Office of Irrigation 12, under the Royal Irrigation Department, will maintain the water level above the dam below 16.50 meters above mean sea level.
It is also forecast that the flow through the Chao Phraya Dam will tend to rise to about 500 to 700 cubic meters per second, which will cause water levels along the riverside to increase by approximately 1 to 1.5 meters, from the dam’s downstream area in Sanphaya district, Chainat province, to Ban Krathum and Hua Wiang subdistricts in Sena district, and Tha Din Daeng subdistrict in Phak Hai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. The increased water levels will remain within the riverbanks.
The Office of Irrigation 12 will control water discharge through the Chao Phraya Dam within this range by managing water efficiently to prevent impacts on agricultural areas. Should floodwaters increase causing flow through the dam to exceed 700 cubic meters per second, further notification will be provided.
Therefore, to prepare for the water situation, the Office of Irrigation 12 under the Royal Irrigation Department requests related agencies and residents living along both banks of the Chao Phraya River to closely monitor the water situation.
