Mae Sot in Tak province has experienced flooding for the third time within seven days. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has sent Cell Broadcast alerts warning of ongoing heavy rain, cautioning residents to watch for flash floods and flash floods, especially those living near canals, streams, lowlands, and foothills. People are advised to move valuables to higher ground, relocate vehicles, and maintain 24-hour vigilance.
At 17:00 on 26 Aug 2026 GMT+7, reporters stated that the Tak Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Mae Sot branch, along with Mae Sot Municipality, issued warnings to residents through all channels, including mobile text messages and public announcement vehicles around the municipality. Those near streams and waterways were specifically urged to be cautious of flash floods and to raise valuable belongings to higher ground while maintaining constant vigilance.
Since the morning of 26 Aug 2026 GMT+7, heavy and continuous rainfall has been recorded in Mae Sot district with no sign of stopping. This has caused water levels in the Mae Sot stream to rise. Rainfall has been continuous since 5 Aug 2026, totaling over 21 days with occasional breaks. Currently, floodwaters have overflowed from the banks into several communities within Mae Sot Municipality, including Don Chai, Jok Jo Samakki, and Chumphon Phatthana, as well as the Pracharak Monkey Cheek retention area. Flooding has also affected the Asian Highway in front of the Mae Sot Municipality Office.
Mr. Kul Krueaweera, Mayor of Mae Sot Municipality, together with municipal executives and Disaster Prevention Office officials, surveyed water levels in the Mae Sot stream, noting increasing inflows. They inspected drainage points in communities behind the Chinese shrine and in Song Khwae community. Floodwaters have begun to rise in these communities and surrounding outskirts of Mae Sot subdistrict.
Mayor Kul Krueaweera stated that the municipality has activated a second water pump at Song Khwae 2 community to accelerate drainage from the area. He urged residents to remain vigilant as rainfall continues around the clock, advising them to elevate belongings, be cautious of venomous animals, and take electrical safety precautions. The Meteorological Department has forecast continuous rain until 1 Sep 2026 GMT+7.
