The Meteorological Department issued Alert No. 3 warning of heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand. Check the list of affected provinces from 29 August to 2 September, and be alert for flash floods and forest runoff.

On 27 August 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentannounced Alert No. 3 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand (effective from 29 August to 2 September 2026). It stated that during 29 August – 2 September 2026, rainfall will increase with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially in the upper northern and northeastern regions and the eastern region, as well as areas exposed to the southwest monsoon. This is due to a monsoon trough moving across the north and upper northeast into a strong low-pressure area over northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Additionally, the southwest monsoon blowing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is fairly strong.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to be cautious of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff. Those living near foothills along watercourses and in low-lying areas should avoid traveling on routes prone to recurring flooding, as short-term waterlogging may occur.

Waves in the upper Andaman Sea will be fairly strong, reaching heights of 2-3 meters, with waves exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves around 2 meters high, increasing above 2 meters in thunderstorm zones. Mariners in these seas should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to refrain from leaving shore during this period.
