A tragic event in Khon Kaen Province where two nephews assaulted their uncle, who raised them, leading to his death at home. They claimed to be angry and annoyed by being scolded. The victim's father emotionally recounted the moment, saying his drunken son was attacked by the nephews from 9 p.m. until midnight.
At 10 a.m. on 28 August 2026, officers from Nong Ruea Police Station brought in Mr. Komwisin Prabnok, 33, and Mr. Yanphan Prabnok, 35, from Yang Kham Subdistrict, Nong Ruea District, Khon Kaen Province, suspects in the case of jointly assaulting another person resulting in death. They were sent for detention at Chum Phae Provincial Court after assaulting Mr. Phithak Moeya, 53, their uncle, who died at his home in Yang Kham Subdistrict, Nong Ruea District, Khon Kaen Province, on 27 August 2026.
Deputy Police Superintendent Samniang Samrongphon, Deputy Chief Investigator at Nong Ruea Police Station, said the arrest of the two brothers followed a report at 1 p.m. on 27 August 2026 from a good Samaritan who informed police that someone had been assaulted and died at a residence. Police reported to their superiors and immediately went to inspect the scene.
Upon arrival at the stated address, they found the body of Mr. Phithak placed on a bed inside the house, covered with a cloth. They coordinated with the duty doctor from Nong Ruea Hospital to conduct a postmortem examination. The examination revealed bruises on the face and chest, so rescue workers from Nong Ruea Hospital took the body to Srinakarin Hospital’s forensic department for further autopsy. Initial examination showed facial and chest bruising, with possible internal injuries likely causing death.
During investigation, Mr. Thongphan Moeya, 89, the victim's father and eyewitness, stated that Mr. Phithak, his son, worked as a laborer at a steel factory in Nong Ruea District and often drank alcohol heavily. Whenever he returned home drunk, he would complain about his two nephews. On the evening of 26 August 2026, after finishing work, Mr. Phithak drank until drunk and arrived home around 9 p.m., then lay down on his bed but kept complaining to his two nephews about their refusal to work and that he was supporting them alone.
Mr. Komwisin, the younger nephew, became angry upon hearing this and slapped and stomped on Mr. Phithak while he was still on the bed. Shortly after, Mr. Yanphan joined in assaulting Mr. Phithak. When Mr. Phithak fell silent, the two nephews would walk away, but when he complained again, they resumed the assault. This continued until 10 p.m., when the two nephews finally stopped.
The Deputy Chief Investigator added that on 27 August 2026, police were dispatched to the scene and, based on the victim’s father's account, took the two nephews into custody for interrogation at Nong Ruea Police Station.
During questioning, Mr. Komwisin admitted he was angry and annoyed by his uncle's constant scolding and thus assaulted him but claimed he did not expect the uncle to die. Mr. Yanphan stated he did not assault the uncle and only went to help him.
Meanwhile, Ms. Wiralya Moeya, 28, the victim’s daughter, revealed that she and her father lived in separate houses. Her father lived with her grandfather and the two nephews because the nephews' parents had long separated. Her father worked to support her grandfather and the nephews until they grew up.
On the night of the incident, her grandfather told her that her father came home drunk, lay down on the bed, and complained to the two nephews, who already had families but did not work, that he was supporting them alone. Then the two nephews assaulted her father continuously from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. the next day, showing very brutal behavior.
The next morning, her father was still conscious and asked her grandfather for painkillers. After taking the medicine, her father lay down on the bed as usual. Around noon, her grandfather noticed her father had been asleep a long time, went to wake him to take more painkillers, but found him stiff and already deceased. Her grandfather then told her to report the incident to the police and have the two nephews arrested and prosecuted. She requested that the court prosecute the two brothers to the fullest extent of the law.
