Weather Department Issues Fifth Alert Warning of Heavy to Very Heavy Rain in Risk Provinces

The Meteorological Department issues the fifth alert for risk provinces. "Heavy to very heavy rain" From 29 Aug to 2 Sep 2026, monitor for flash floods and flash flood runoff; seas will have waves 2-3 meters high.

On 28 August 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued the fifth warning about heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand (effective from 29 August to 2 September 2026).

It stated that from 29 Aug to 2 Sep 2026, Thailand will experience increased rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially the western part of the north, central region, upper northeast, eastern part of the northeast, and the eastern region. This is due to a monsoon trough moving across the north and upper northeast into a strong low-pressure area over northern Vietnam’s coast and the Gulf of Tonkin.

Additionally, a fairly strong southwest monsoon is covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in these areas should be cautious of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and flash flood runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands. People should avoid traveling on roads prone to repeated flooding, particularly in low-lying areas where short-term waterlogging may occur.

Winds and waves in the upper Andaman Sea will be fairly strong, with waves 2-3 meters high, and over 3 meters high in areas with thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves around 2 meters high, with higher waves during thunderstorms. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to stay ashore during this period.
