Announcement No. 7: Check High-Risk Provinces for Heavy to Very Heavy Rain and Watch for Flash Floods

Announcement No. 7 from the Meteorological Department warns high-risk provinces. "Heavy to very heavy rain" From 29 Aug to 2 Sep, watch for dangers from accumulated rain that may cause flash floods and rapid mountain runoff.

On 29 August 2026, the Meteorological Department website issued Announcement No. 7 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in upper Thailand. It stated that from 29 Aug to 2 Sep 2026, rainfall will increase with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially the western parts of northern and central regions, upper northeastern and eastern regions. This is due to a monsoon trough moving over the north and upper northeast, connecting with a strong low-pressure area near northern Vietnam’s coast and the Gulf of Tonkin.

Combined with a fairly strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall which may cause flash floods and rapid mountain runoff. Especially those in foothill areas near watercourses and lowlands should avoid travel through flood-prone routes, particularly low-lying areas where short-term flooding may occur.

In the upper Andaman Sea, winds will be fairly strong with waves 2-3 meters high, and waves over 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves about 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorms. Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised not to depart from shore during this period.

For safety and to minimize possible impacts, residents are urged to plan their activities and travel carefully during this time.
