On 31 August 2026, a sedan collided with a motorcycle at the Nang Lae bypass intersection in Chiang Rai at approximately 20:18 on 25 August. The accident caused the death of two Mae Fah Luang University female students and seriously injured one. Among the deceased was 19-year-old first-year law student Ms. Alfarin Kaso, who passed away at the hospital on 29 August.
Today, reporters visited the home of Ms. Alfarin in Year 10, Yarang Subdistrict, Yarang District, Pattani Province, after her family brought her body back for religious rites and burial past midnight. Throughout the morning, numerous relatives, neighbors, and former high school teachers came to express condolences amid an atmosphere filled with grief. Her parents and siblings remain deeply sorrowful and unable to accept the loss of their beloved daughter and sister.
Family members revealed that before the incident, Nong Alfarin had gone to eat with two friends before heading back to her dormitory. The accident occurred en route. Initially, the family was unaware that Alfarin was involved because her body was found beside the road, obscured by a large tree. It was only when someone at the scene heard her phone ringing—a call from her mother—that they realized she was at the accident site. She was then rescued and taken to the hospital but later died.
The family shared that besides their grief, they are also worried about the expenses incurred traveling to Chiang Rai to handle legal matters related to Alfarin, as they are not wealthy. They also noted concern that the other party, a medical professor, has not contacted them to inquire about Alfarin’s condition or to take responsibility, causing anxiety and questions about the case’s progress.
The family emphasized they do not seek financial compensation since no amount of money can replace Alfarin’s life. Their primary desire is for the justice system to proceed transparently and for the case to advance to ensure fairness for the deceased and their family.
Ms. Alfarin Kaso, aged 19, was the youngest daughter in her family, which includes an older brother and sister. Her family was very close to her as she was a kind, pleasant child who cared deeply for them.
Mr. Anan Kaso, 34, the eldest brother, said he learned of the accident from a professor who called to inform him that Alfarin had suffered severe brain trauma and was being transferred to a hospital in Chiang Rai. Initially, he tried to reassure himself that she was not seriously injured, but when doctors informed them her condition was critical and that survival might result in a vegetative state, the family was heartbroken. Alfarin was cheerful, sincere, and determined to succeed. Her dream was to graduate, find work, and support her family and nieces and nephews. She usually called home daily to share her activities, but on the night of the accident, her mother noticed she hadn’t called. She tried calling around 8 p.m. with no answer, before the professor called to report the accident.
Even now, he cannot accept the loss; he has not dared to enter her bedroom or look at her belongings as they are vivid memories tied to her. He especially recalls the day they accompanied her to start school in Chiang Rai, never imagining they would return to receive her under these circumstances.
After the accident, the professor asked him to collect Alfarin’s belongings from her dormitory, but he has not dared to enter because he was the one who looked after and cleaned the room, and bought many of her possessions himself.
Regarding the case, the family remains worried about whether justice will be served, as Alfarin was a bright, dedicated student with a future ahead. The opposing party has not contacted them, and they have only met once at the hospital, where the other party claimed the accident was unintentional.
