OBEC Tightens Safety Measures Following Student Gun Incident at School in Kamphaeng Phet

OBEC has ordered strict enforcement of prevention and response measures following an incident where a student brought and fired a gun at a school in Kamphaeng Phet, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the safety of students and teachers.

On 2 September 2026, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) reported that, according to online media, a student brought a firearm into a secondary school in Kamphaeng Phet Province and caused a disturbance. Prasert Chantraruangthong, Minister of Education, and Akkranant Kankittinan, Deputy Minister of Education, expressed concern for the safety of students, teachers, educational staff, and the local community. They instructed OBEC to assign the Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Education Service Area Office to investigate the facts and coordinate with relevant agencies to closely ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff.

Initially, the Kamphaeng Phet Secondary Education Service Area Office, together with the Governor of Kamphaeng Phet, the Provincial Police Chief, and related agencies, jointly inspected the situation. They found that no students, teachers, or educational personnel were injured. The situation has now returned to normal. They have evacuated and cared for all students, arranging safe transportation home. Meanwhile, police have detained the suspect and are proceeding with legal processes. Authorities have also inspected and cleared the area to ensure safety.

OBEC has instructed its affiliated agencies to implement necessary measures comprehensively to prevent and respond to any potential incidents in schools, prioritizing the safety of students and teachers.
