A good Samaritan spotted a large sea turtle weighing over 50 kilograms stranded on Patong Beach, appearing weak, and promptly notified lifeguards who provided assistance until it was safe to release.
At 6:00 a.m. on 3 September 2026, Ms. Jiraporn Wijit was walking along Patong Beach, Patong Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket Province, when she found a large sea turtle weighing over 50 kilograms stranded on the shore, showing signs of weakness and fatigue. She immediately alerted the Patong Beach lifeguards to check on the turtle.
Upon notification, the lifeguards responded immediately by removing the sea turtle from the beach, administering first aid, and monitoring its condition. They then coordinated with the Sirithan Rare Marine Animal Rescue Center located within the Upper Andaman Sea and Coastal Resources Research Center at Laem Phanwa, Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, to take the turtle for health examination, assessment, and appropriate treatment.
Currently, officials are awaiting the team from the Sirithan Rare Marine Animal Rescue Center to collect the turtle for examination and care until it regains sufficient strength to be released back into the wild.
