A dramatic accident occurred when a tourist sedan lost control at the S1 curve on the descent from Phu Thap Boek, crashing into and becoming lodged on a barrier, resulting in two injuries.
On 6 Sep 2026, rescue volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Lom Sak received reports of a sedan crashing off the curve and hitting a barrier at the S1 curve, kilometer 7 on the Phu Thap Boek ascent road, Village 6, Ban Phu Pod, Ban Noen Subdistrict, Lom Kao District, Phetchabun Province. Two people were injured, prompting immediate assistance.
At the scene, a gray-black Honda Jazz sedan with Bangkok license plates was found lodged on the right-side barrier on the downhill lane. The front of the car was damaged, and two people were injured. They were given initial medical treatment and then transported to Somdej Phra Yuparaj Lom Kao Hospital.
Initial inquiries revealed the accident victims were tourists from Lopburi Province traveling together in a group of four. They had been visiting Phu Thap Boek since the previous day and stayed overnight there, departing back on the morning of the accident.
Upon reaching the accident site, which is the final curve before the flat ground, the brake system failed, making it impossible to control the car. The vehicle skidded off the curve, hit the barrier, and became stuck on it, causing two injuries. Fortunately, no oncoming vehicles were passing at that time; otherwise, a collision could have occurred. Additionally, if the car had broken through the barrier, the damage and injuries might have been more severe.
The S1 curve at Phu Thap Boek is a steep downhill section and the last curve before reaching the flat area in Lom Kao District. It frequently sees accidents involving brake failure or overheating. The most recent occurred on 26 Jul 2026, involving a tourist van colliding with a sedan while descending, then crashing into a pickup truck, totaling three vehicles. This happened near the S1 curve on the Phu Thap Boek ascent/descent road, around kilometers 6-7 on the Jo Howa–Phu Hin Rong Kla Road, Village 6, Ban Noen Subdistrict, Lom Kao District.
