The body of a 56-year-old woman was found face down submerged in a pond in the middle of a rubber plantation forest after she had been missing from home for five days. Her husband revealed that prior to her disappearance, she had heard a woman crying late at night for two consecutive nights before vanishing and later being found dead.
At 12:00 p.m. on 6 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Phantit Sirimun, an investigating officer at Klaeng Police Station in Rayong Province, received a report from rescue workers of the Buddhadasa Welfare Association in Klaeng District that a deceased person had been found submerged in a pond in the middle of a rubber plantation forest, Moo 8, Ban Na Subdistrict, Klaeng District, Rayong. He proceeded to the scene to investigate.
At the scene, the body of a 56-year-old woman was found, later identified as Ms. Rawee Notodem, a native of Nakhon Ratchasima Province. She was wearing black shorts and a black shirt with light yellow shoes, lying face down submerged in the pond. Initial examination by officials found no wounds or signs of assault on her body. It is estimated that she had been deceased for at least four days.
When questioned, Mr. Winai, aged 65, the deceased's husband, said his wife had been missing for about five days. He searched and asked neighbors but no one had seen her. At noon today, a rubber tapper entering the plantation to apply acid noticed a body in the pond and alerted local residents and rescue workers, who then confirmed it was his missing wife.
Mr. Winai also said that before the incident, his wife had never been to the pond area. However, prior to her death, she had heard mysterious crying sounds of a woman around midnight for two consecutive nights.
Meanwhile, neighbors provided similar information, saying they also heard sounds resembling a woman crying late at night for two consecutive nights before the 56-year-old woman disappeared and was later found dead submerged in the pond in the middle of the rubber plantation forest. The couple did not have a permanent home and rented a place to live; they went to work wherever hired.
Mr. Winai believes the mysterious crying sounds heard at midnight might be supernatural and suspects that some spirit may have possessed or influenced his wife to go to the pond in the forest, leading to her drowning. However, these are only beliefs and assumptions held by the husband and local residents.
Initially, police examined the body and the scene and found no signs of assault. Mr. Winai had no suspicion about the cause of death. The body was handed over to rescue workers to proceed with customary funeral arrangements.
