Meteorological Department Issue No. 3: List of Provinces to Prepare for Heavy Rainfall from 8-13 Sep 2026

The Meteorological Department issued its third bulletin stating that rainfall will increase with heavy rain in many areas. Check the list of provinces to prepare for the period from 8 to 13 September 2026.

From 8 to 13 September 2026, Thailand will experience increased rainfall with heavy rain in many areas, and very heavy rain in some places. The heavy rain will begin in the Northeast region first, with other regions affected subsequently.

During 8-11 September 2026, a monsoon trough will pass over the North, Upper Central, and Northeast regions. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will be moderate in strength, causing heavy rain in many parts of Upper Thailand and very heavy rain in some areas.

Then, on 12-13 September 2026, a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China will spread over the Upper North and Upper Northeast regions. This will shift the monsoon trough southward to pass over the Lower Central and Eastern regions, reaching a strong low-pressure area over the central South China Sea. Along with a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Southern region, and Gulf of Thailand, this will reduce rain in the North and Northeast but increase rain in the Central region including Bangkok and vicinity, the East, and the South, with heavy to very heavy rain in some locations.

The public, especially in the Lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and vicinity, East, and Upper South from 9-11 September 2026, should be cautious of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and mountain runoff floods. People near foothills, water flow paths, and low-lying areas should avoid traveling through flood-prone routes, as short-term flooding may occur in low-lying zones.

Additionally, from 11-13 September 2026, a low-pressure area near the Philippines is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone and move toward the central South China Sea.
