A loud explosion echoed through the village when a 61-year-old woman went to turn off a gas stove after leaving food to heat, resulting in an explosion that damaged the home and injured two people.
On 8 Sep 2026, it was reported that at 21:30 on 7 Sep, Police Lieutenant Colonel Prin Prasert, Deputy Investigation Officer of Phra Samut Chedi Police Station in Samut Prakan Province, received a report of a liquefied petroleum gas explosion at a residence with two injured victims. He coordinated with the disaster prevention and mitigation team of Nai Khlong Bang Pla Kot Subdistrict Administrative Organization and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation to investigate and provide assistance.
The scene, inside a two-story townhouse in Nai Khlong Bang Pla Kot Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province, was located in the kitchen at the back of the house on the ground floor. Two injured individuals were found: 1. Mrs. Daeng, 61, who sustained pain and swelling in her right arm and suffered hot water burns; 2. Mr. Kosol, 64, who experienced chest tightness caused by the blast impact.
Volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation provided first aid and transported the injured to Phra Samut Chedi Swatyanon Hospital. Police inspected the ground floor of the house, finding scattered belongings, broken glass, and a 15-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas tank that had been blown out from the kitchen counter's gas tank compartment. A cooking pot remained on the stove burner. The preliminary cause is believed to be a gas leak from the stove set.
Initial inquiries revealed that four people lived in the house: parents, daughter, and son-in-law. All were on the ground floor preparing dinner when Mrs. Daeng entered the kitchen to heat food, leaving it on the gas stove burner on the kitchen counter. After about 10 minutes, she went to turn off the stove burner, but an explosion occurred, injuring two and damaging household property. Preliminary damage is estimated at 30,000 baht.
The suspected cause is a leak from the liquefied petroleum gas tank. Police plan to coordinate with forensic teams to investigate the cause more thoroughly.
A neighbor recounted that around 20:45, while having dinner inside their home, they heard a loud bang and initially thought it was a wardrobe falling, possibly due to a dog or cat playing inside. Upon stepping outside, they saw broken glass scattered across the street and nearby and noticed an elderly man from the neighboring house emerging with the smell of gas in the air. The incident injured the elderly couple who own the house: the man was cut by glass shards near the door, and the woman was likely hurt by the blast while turning off the gas. Fortunately, the neighbor's own house was undamaged.
Mrs. Daeng, 61, explained that at the time of the incident, she had turned on the gas to warm food for about 15 minutes but did not have the flame high, just enough to warm it. As she was about to turn off the gas, the explosion suddenly occurred, producing a rapid flash of fire.
Ms. Duangkamol, 40, the daughter of the household where the gas explosion occurred, said four people live in the house. At the time, her mother was heating food and was preparing to turn off the gas when the unexpected explosion happened suddenly. She was unsure how long the food had been heating but noted that no unusual gas smell was detected before the incident. She was very shocked as she was playing with the family cat during the explosion.
Mr. Worayot Chatrattanatham, 36, a security guard who first arrived on the scene, said he was patrolling the village entrance when residents alerted him to the gas explosion. Upon inspection, he found the house's power was out, a faint flame at the stove burner that soon went out, and gas odor spreading nearby. Inside, broken glass was scattered. His team detached the gas tank valve and removed the tank to an open area. Two people were injured: the woman with arm injuries and minor hot water burns, and the man with glass cuts on his arm and neck. He administered first aid and called for an ambulance.
