The Meteorological Department is monitoring increased rainfall and issuing a warning to stay alert. "Heavy rain" from 9 to 11 September 2026 may cause flash floods and mountain runoff.
8 September 2026The Meteorological Departmentheld a meeting to monitor and assess the weather situation, chaired by Mr. Nattawut Dandi, Deputy Director-General of the Meteorological Department (Academic Division). The meeting included officials from the central office, regional meteorological centers, and meteorological stations. It took place at the Weather Forecast Operations Center, 11th floor, 50th Anniversary Meteorology Building, and online, to follow the situation and prepare for the expected increase in rainfall.
The meeting assessed that northern Thailand is starting to experience increased rainfall, with heavy rain in some areas, especially in the northern, northeastern, and upper central regions. This is due to a monsoon trough crossing the north and upper northeast, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
From 9 to 11 September 2026, vigilance is required as the lower northeastern region, central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, eastern region, and upper southern region will experience heavy rain in many areas, with some places seeing very heavy rain. The northeastern region will be affected first, with other areas impacted subsequently.
The Meteorological Department advises residents in risk areas to watch for heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and mountain runoff, particularly in foothill areas near waterways, low-lying regions, and flood-prone routes. Avoid traveling through frequently flooded roads.
