The Meteorological Department issued its fifth announcement warning of heavy to very heavy rain and advising caution against flash floods and mudslides, effective until 13 Sep 2026 GMT+7.

On 9 Sep 2026, Thailand experienced heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, especially in the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions. This was due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass extending over Vietnam and northern Laos, causing a monsoon trough to shift southward across northern, upper central, and northeastern Thailand. This combined with a moderate-strength southwest monsoon blowing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Subsequently, from 10 to 13 Sep 2026,

the lower northeastern region, central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, eastern region, and southern region will continue to experience rain, with some areas receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, rain will decrease in the northern and upper northeastern regions. This is due to a high-pressure or cold air mass from China spreading over upper northern and upper northeastern Thailand, shifting the monsoon trough southward across lower central, lower northeastern, and eastern regions, reaching a strong low-pressure area in the central South China Sea. At the same time, the southwest monsoon blowing over the Andaman Sea, southern region, and Gulf of Thailand will strengthen.

Residents in upper Thailand and upper southern regions are advised to be cautious of heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain that may cause flash floods and mudslides. Those living near foothills, water flow paths, and low-lying areas should avoid traveling through frequently flooded routes, especially in lowlands prone to short-term flooding.

Furthermore, from 11 to 13 Sep 2026, the low-pressure area in the central South China Sea is likely to intensify into a tropical cyclone. Continuous monitoring of weather forecasts during this period is recommended.
