Banphaeo Hospital Temporarily Suspends Services in Chalermprakiet Building Following Fire

Banphaeo Hospital in Samut Sakhon Province has announced a temporary suspension of services in the Chalermprakiet Building (Outpatient Building) following a fire incident.

On 14 Sep 2026, at around 18:00 on 13 Sep, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiwat Thiammeekha, an investigator at Banphaeo Police Station, received a report of a fire at the Chalermprakiet Building, a five-story building at Banphaeo Hospital in Samut Sakhon. The fire occurred on the ground floor (G floor) inside the physical therapy center. Fire engines from both Samut Sakhon and nearby areas were promptly coordinated along with ambulances from local hospitals and rescue volunteers from various foundations to assist.

In addition to quickly extinguishing the fire, efforts focused on evacuating patients resting in the affected area as swiftly and safely as possible. The incident was highly alarming, but fortunately, Banphaeo Hospital coordinated with all relevant agencies rapidly. The hospital staff, skilled in emergency response, safely moved about 40 patients—mainly postpartum mothers and newborns—from the third floor to a reception building.

After evacuation, though no one was harmed, the hospital dispatched medical teams to accompany each patient continuously to monitor their condition closely.

Regarding firefighting efforts, the fire's origin was inside the physical therapy center on the ground floor. Firefighters sprayed water inside the building and controlled the blaze within about 40 minutes. They continued to spray water and used air compressors to clear smoke from the building. Two rescue workers sustained minor cuts from broken glass while on duty but were safe and able to return home.Read more: Fire at Banphaeo Hospital, Samut Sakhon – Fire extinguished but smoke remains)

At around 19:00, Deputy Interior Minister Jeset Thaiset visited the scene to inspect preliminary damage inside the building. He found that the fire affected only the ground floor, causing approximately 90% damage, with no spread to other floors. He also visited injured rescue workers to offer encouragement.

Deputy Interior Minister Jeset Thaiset stated the initial inspection revealed significant damage with about 90% of the ground floor burned. Fortunately, there were no injuries or increased patient casualties. All patients who had been in the building were safe. Structural engineers and urban planners will need to assess the building’s stability before determining if it can continue to be used.

For patients scheduled for appointments on 14 Sep, the hospital has contacted them to reschedule or relocate services to other areas. The Samut Sakhon Provincial Public Health Office has deployed teams to assess the health of everyone in the hospital. Additionally, the Samut Sakhon Natural Resources and Environment Office and the Pollution Control Department Region 5 (Nakhon Pathom) will inspect environmental impact, air quality, and public health effects, supporting operations as authorized. The fire’s exact cause remains unconfirmed pending investigation.

An eyewitness reported that the fire started in the physical therapy center due to a short circuit in the backup power supply, which caused the fire. Initially, someone tried to extinguish it but failed and alerted authorities. Fortunately, it was a holiday, so no clients were present.

Later at 22:35 on the same day, the Facebook pageBanphaeo General Hospitalposted an important update announcing a temporary suspension of services in the Chalermprakiet Building (Outpatient Building).
