Lampang — Entertainment venue executives in Lampang, together with a young singer, paid respects and apologized to sacred entities and the Lampang provincial ecclesiastical chief over a video clip showing the singer dressed like a monk and displaying inappropriate behavior on stage. The Director of the Buddhist Office confirmed that legal proceedings will continue.
A well-known entertainment venue's Facebook page in Lampang posted a video of a stage performance featuring a male singer dressed in orange robes resembling a monk, wearing an object resembling a phallic amulet during the act. This sparked intense debate on social media over the appropriateness of the act. Subsequently, the Director of the Buddhist Office filed a complaint to press charges against the singer and venue, citing possible violations of criminal law Sections 206, for religious insult, and 208, for impersonating a monk, as previously reported.
Regarding this matter, on 16 Sep 2026 GMT+7, the entertainment venue's executives and the singer involved visited Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao Suchadaram Royal Monastery to meet and pay respects by apologizing to the sacred objects within the temple and to the Lampang provincial ecclesiastical chief to show respect and seek forgiveness for the incident. Present were Phra Ratchachintawachiraporn (Serm Kotkijjo), abbot of the temple, and Mr. Kaneungkit Promnuchanon, Director of the Lampang Provincial Buddhist Office, who attended to listen.
Earlier, a video of a singer performing at a Lampang entertainment venue was shared online, showing him dressed in orange robes resembling a monk’s cassock while singing and performing on stage. He also displayed a bolster pillow resembling a phallic amulet, which sparked debate over whether the act was appropriate. Consequently, the Director of the Lampang Provincial Buddhist Office filed a police complaint to pursue legal action.
Following the public outcry, the entertainment venue’s executives and the singer involved traveled to meet with the monastic authorities to pay respects, apologize to the sacred objects, and seek forgiveness from the Lampang provincial ecclesiastical chief.
Mr. Kaneungkit Promnuchanon, Director of the Lampang Provincial Buddhist Office, stated that the legal process will continue according to the law.
