After continuous overnight rain, floodwaters burst through the Ban Phia Reservoir in Uttaradit, which has been damaged since 2025, flooding and cutting off the mountain access road, causing distress among residents who urgently seek help.
At 14:30 on 16 Sep 2026, reporters reported that after heavy rain poured continuously overnight from about 22:00 on 15 Sep until 14:15 today, a large volume of rainwater accumulated over forests and mountains transformed into muddy flash floods that rapidly surged into Ban Phia Reservoir, Nam Phai Subdistrict, Nam Pat District, Uttaradit Province, from early morning.
The critical issue is that Ban Phia Reservoir has been deteriorated since it was hit by Typhoon Bualoi in 2025. Nam Phai Subdistrict Administrative Organization repaired it with budget funds, but it could not withstand the floodwaters. The reservoir could not contain the water, which overflowed and surged along channels made by the Subdistrict Administrative Organization before flooding the main road connecting the lowland community to houses on the mountain rapidly.
Latest updates as of 14:00 show that the high flood levels and strong currents have completely cut off the road. Residents living on the mountain cannot travel down to the village below. Travel is difficult and dangerous. Local people are urgently appealing to relevant agencies to send officials immediately to provide assistance.
