Relatives passing by the house noticed a foul odor, then opened the door to find two elderly sisters dead inside the residence. They had been dead for several days. The bodies were sent for autopsy before being handed over to family for funeral rites.
At 14:00 on 16 Sep 2016, Police Lieutenant Chatchana Chanaphan, deputy investigator at Buppharam Police Station, received a report of two elderly sick women found dead at a house in Soi Bang Luang, Arun Amarin Road, Wat Kanlaya Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok. He coordinated with Police Colonel Phuwadon Unphot, chief of Buppharam Police Station, forensic officers, a medical examiner from the Department of Forensic Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, and volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation to investigate.
At the scene inside the house, the body of Ms. Somsomorn Lomunphan, 93, was found on the floor beside the bed, naked, with black fluid leaking. In the bathroom, the body of Ms. Sanguanrat Lomunphan, 73, her younger sister, also naked, was found. Both had been deceased for several days.
During questioning, the deceased's niece said both had chronic illnesses. Ms. Somsomorn was bedridden, and the two lived alone without care. Before discovering the bodies, the niece passed the house and noticed a foul smell, so she entered and found both had died. She then called authorities. Relatives did not question the cause of death.
Authorities initially suspected Ms. Sanguanrat likely died first in the bathroom due to illness, followed by Ms. Somsomorn who was bedridden and unattended, leading to her death. The bodies were handed to the foundation to be sent for autopsy at Siriraj Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities coordinated with the family to collect the bodies for religious funeral ceremonies.
