The 2nd Army Region explained that following a clip showing trench digging and barbed wire placement at Chong Sangam, they have taken control of the area and coordinated with Cambodia to comply with the ceasefire agreement prohibiting troop movements and terrain adjustments that risk territorial encroachment.
On 16 September 2026, the 2nd Army Region (2AR) clarified that reports of Cambodian forces digging trenches and placing barbed wire around Hill 450 in the Chong Sangam area, Phu Sing District, Sisaket Province, were found to involve encroachment into Thai territory.
The 2nd Army Region immediately investigated the situation and assigned the Suranaree task force to deploy forces to control the area. They coordinated with Cambodian soldiers stationed there to strictly adhere to the joint statement from the 3rd Special Session of the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting held on 27 December 2025 at the permanent border crossing at Ban Phak Kad, Chanthaburi Province, Thailand, and Proam, Phailin Province, Cambodia. This includes prohibitions on military troop movements or terrain alterations that could encroach upon the other side’s land, and avoidance of any actions that might escalate tensions.
The discussions proceeded smoothly with mutual understanding between both sides, and Cambodia has taken action to restore the trench and barbed wire areas to their normal condition.
The 2nd Army Region reaffirmed its commitment to fully protect national sovereignty and interests by closely monitoring the border situation and acting with caution to maintain peace and safety for the local population.
