The Meteorological Department issued its 5th bulletin warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand, listing provinces to watch for flash floods and flash floods, with impacts lasting until 20 September 2026 GMT+7.

17 September 2026 GMT+7Meteorological DepartmentAnnouncement on heavy to very heavy rain over Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea (effective 17 - 20 September 2026) No. 5 (209/2569).

Between 17 and 20 September 2026, Thailand will experience heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, initially affecting the northern and northeastern regions on 17 September 2026. Subsequently, the central, eastern, and southern regions will be affected the following day (18 September 2026).

This is due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China extending over upper northern and upper northeastern Thailand, causing the monsoon trough to shift southward across lower central, eastern, and upper southern regions, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The public in Thailand is advised to beware of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in hillside areas near waterways and lowlands. Avoid traveling through frequently flooded routes, particularly low-lying areas prone to short-term flooding.

Waves and winds in the Andaman Sea will be fairly strong, with wave heights of 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea should navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should refrain from setting out during 17-20 September 2026.

For safety and to minimize potential impacts, the public should plan their activities and travel carefully during this period.
