Two perspectives on the case where a teacher’s car hit a student on a road inside the school remain unresolved due to disagreement over compensation. The Lampang-Lamphun Secondary Educational Service Area Office plans to summon both parties to find a solution.
On 17 Jun 2026, reports indicated that a Facebook user shared footage from a school where a male student stepped out from behind bushes at the same time a car was approaching, resulting in the student being struck and injured on the afternoon of 11 Jun 2026.
Latest updates at 12:00 on 16 Sep 2026 saw reporters return to the school but the principal was absent. A teacher showed the accident site, a paved road about five meters wide with a slight incline stretching from the school gate to the main building. The trees seen in the video have since been cut down, but at the time of the incident, they were about 160 centimeters tall with leaves and branches spreading as shown in the footage.
Initially, the school was unable to comment as the principal was on official duty outside the area. However, the school has taken the matter seriously, forming a committee to investigate and encouraging both parties to negotiate. Despite this, they have not agreed on compensation, leading them to pursue legal rights, which brought the case into the spotlight.
The school has reported the matter through proper channels. It is understood that the principal of the Lampang-Lamphun Secondary Educational Service Area Office will mediate another negotiation session between the parties on 17 Sep 2026.
The female teacher involved declined to be interviewed, stating that the school and supervisors prefer another round of negotiations to seek a joint resolution. She insisted that she has not neglected responsibility or denied it as some media reported, emphasizing that the incident was accidental and the CCTV footage provides the clearest account.
Since the incident, she has checked on the student’s condition from the start, accompanied him to the hospital, visited his home, and regularly inquired about his progress through the student’s advisor. During the school-mediated meeting on 17 Jun 2026, the student’s parent demanded 500,000 baht in compensation, while she offered 100,000 baht.
However, the parent added conditions requiring care for the child until full recovery, with unknown additional costs, so no agreement was reached. Later, a mediator suggested about 50,000 baht, which the parent rejected. The dispute eventually became public through social media posts.
Mr. Thawisak, 52, the injured student’s father, said his son has returned to school but still walks with a limp. The main issue preventing agreement is the compensation amount, as he worries whether his son will walk normally again, need further surgery for the broken leg, or suffer long-term effects.
He is also concerned whether his son will be physically fit for future careers like police or military service. Being unfamiliar with the law, he may seek legal assistance. He views the school as a safe zone for children, where utmost caution must be exercised when driving. Posting about the incident online was meant as a warning and case study for other schools to prevent similar accidents. Though unaware of legal details, as a father he wants justice for his son.
