Meteorological Department Announcement No. 6: Check Provinces for Heavy Rain Preparedness, Beware of Flash Floods

The Meteorological Department issued Announcement No. 6 warning of heavy to very heavy rain, listing provinces to monitor for flash floods and sudden mountain runoff, effective from 24 to 27 September 2026.

From 24 to 27 September 2026, northern, lower northeastern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, eastern and southern regions will experience heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some locations.

This is due to a strong low-pressure area over Cambodia moving to cover the lower northeastern, eastern, central regions, including Bangkok and vicinity, along the monsoon trough across upper Thailand. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is strengthening.

Residents in Thailand should be cautious of dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and continuous rainfall accumulation, which may cause flash floods and sudden mountain runoff. Especially those in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands should avoid traveling on routes prone to repeated flooding, particularly low-lying areas where short-term flooding may occur.

Sea waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will intensify, with wave heights of 2-3 meters in the upper Gulf of Thailand and upper Andaman Sea. In thunderstorms, waves may exceed 3 meters. In the lower Gulf of Thailand and lower Andaman Sea, waves will be about 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorms. Boaters in these areas should navigate carefully and avoid sailing during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Gulf of Thailand and upper Andaman Sea should refrain from going out to sea until 27 September 2026.
