Residents in Village 6, Phosa Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ang Thong Province, reported a large circular land subsidence over 3 meters deep along the Chao Phraya Riverbank. Today (24 Sep 2026) at the Phosa Subdistrict Municipality, Mueang District, Ang Thong, Air Commodore Thong-ap Subsomboon, the mayor, along with engineering staff, disaster prevention officers, and contractors, planned repairs on the collapsing riverbank levee in Village 6. The levee was under construction and subsided following heavy rainfall.
Mayor Air Commodore Thong-ap said contractors were instructed to expedite repairs. Soil has already been added to the subsided areas, and an additional 100 meters of embankment will be reinforced beyond the original line to enhance strength. The embankment will be raised approximately 2.5 meters above the water level, with work to be completed promptly.
He added that the affected site does not impact inner communities. The riverbank levee is supported by piles on both front and back sides, providing structural stability. Efforts are underway to strengthen and reinforce the embankment further.
Contractor Sitthisak Rianrat explained they plan to place sacks filled with cement mixed with sand into the cavities caused by the levee collapse. The sacks help contain the cement, preventing it from washing away with the current. When the cement contacts water or moisture inside the void, it gradually hardens like stone, sealing the cavity and supporting the structure. The area will then be covered with fabric.
Currently, the Chao Phraya River water level is steadily rising, measured at 6.98 meters at telemetry station C7A in front of Ang Thong City Hall. The levee water barrier is at 10 meters, with a flow rate of 1,672 cubic meters per second. Authorities warn residents in risk areas of Phong Pheng Subdistrict, Pa Mok District, and Bang Chak Subdistrict, Wiset Chai Chan District, to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely.
