Chaos broke out at dawn as floodwaters burst into Ban Huai Hin School in Chachoengsao Province. The principal urgently ordered the school closed, and teachers had to use basins as boats to chase after belongings floating away with the water.
On 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7, it was reported that Mr. Ratchasak Wongbubpha, director of Ban Huai Hin School in Lat Krating Subdistrict, Sanam Chai Khet District, Chachoengsao, ordered the school closed after heavy rain fell around 2 a.m. Then around 5 a.m., flash floodwaters surged into the school. Eight teachers living in the staff housing behind the school woke in alarm as floodwaters filled the school grounds.
The teachers could not salvage any belongings in time. Cars and motorcycles were damaged. The floodwater covered the entire school, scattering items in the cafeteria. The teachers used large basins and trash scoops as paddles to gather what they could from the water. Concerned students tried to enter classrooms to retrieve items but could only collect things floating on the floodwater.
Meanwhile, the headman of Lat Krating Subdistrict and the chief of the Lat Krating Subdistrict Administrative Organization are urgently leading disaster relief officers to help move belongings as much as possible initially. Continuous rain and rapidly flowing floodwaters remain major obstacles to the aid efforts.
