The Chanthaburi Disaster Prevention Office has raised a red flag warning to alert residents to monitor the situation after floodwaters from Khao Khitchakut and Makham districts have surged continuously into the Chanthaburi River, reaching a critical level above 3 meters and risking floods in economic zones and riverside communities.
On 27 September 2026 GMT+7, reporters noted that early this morning, Chanthaburi's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation officials changed the warning flag from yellow to red on the bridge crossing the Chanthaburi River within the city. This follows forecast criteria as the river's water level exceeded 3 meters, prompting a maximum alert for riverside residents to remain vigilant.
The Chanthaburi River's critical water level is at 3.5 meters. Residents along the Chanthaburi River, especially in the Phakdi Ramphai canal area, downstream zones, and low-lying areas prone to repeated flooding, are advised to move belongings to higher ground and closely follow official updates.
Last night, a large volume of water from Khao Khitchakut and Makham districts flowed into the Chanthaburi River's upper areas and continues to add to the river, potentially impacting the economic zone in Mueang Chanthaburi district.
Meanwhile, the outer water situation remains concerning. In Khao Khitchakut district, floodwaters continue to rise in lowland areas such as Phuang, Takian Thong, and Chanthakhlom subdistricts. In Makham district, Wang Saem and Chaman subdistricts remain heavily flooded, with waters still flowing into the Chanthaburi River.
The Chanthaburi Provincial Command Center reported that flooding has caused riverbanks to overflow, waterlogging, and flash floods, inundating homes and roads. So far, eight districts, 29 subdistricts, 153 villages, and 936 households have been affected, with two fatalities reported. In Wang Mai subdistrict, Na Yai Am district, widespread flooding has impacted several villages, with many homes surrounded by water. Throughout the night, rescue teams and related agencies have mobilized to assist and evacuate vulnerable residents to safety amid rising water levels. Meanwhile, as floodwaters flow downstream to Tha Mai district, local residents must closely monitor the situation.
