The Governor of Samut Prakan Province visited flood-affected areas, announcing that all six districts have been declared disaster zones, with efforts underway to assist residents severely impacted by the floods.
Mr. Suphamit Chinsri, Governor of Samut Prakan Province, inspected and monitored the flooding situation alongside relevant agencies, stating that the province has been continuously tracking flood conditions after heavy rainfall and water drainage affected many areas.
Since last Friday, the province has instructed district chiefs and all local administrative organizations to survey residents' hardships, listen to their feedback, and expedite assistance; currently, all six districts of Samut Prakan have been declared disaster zones.
Regarding aid measures, the province has directed local agencies to prioritize urgent needs, ensuring that the most severely flooded areas and those with the greatest distress, especially along various canals, receive help first.
The Governor of Samut Prakan stated that water levels in some areas continue to rise despite the rain having stopped, due to water being channeled through the canal system, particularly Samrong and Dan canals, impacting downstream areas of the province. Meanwhile, Bang Phli Noi and Bang Bo districts remain under close observation.
Samut Prakan Province must manage water jointly with Bangkok and surrounding areas to expedite drainage from the overall region, while urging residents in downstream zones to remain patient and monitor the situation closely.
In Bang Phli district, expected to be one of the hardest hit, the province has established a shelter center where more than 600 people have sought refuge, including about 40 bedridden patients who were evacuated from affected villages.
Some residents capable of self-support have stayed in hotels, while those unable to bear the costs have been accommodated at the shelter, with cooperation from the Bang Phli Yai Subdistrict Administrative Organization providing assistance.
In Mueang Samut Prakan district, authorities have inspected the Sri Thepa area and Bang Mueang municipality to monitor problem-solving efforts and support for affected residents.
Additionally, related agencies are collaborating, including the Samut Prakan Highway District, Bang Mueang municipality, traffic police, foundations, and administrative officials, to facilitate traffic, inform the public about routes, and assist vehicles stranded or broken down in flooded areas.
The Governor of Samut Prakan confirmed that all agencies continue working on-site without interruption, including weekends, to expedite solutions and aid. The flood situation is improving in many areas, and the highway department will soon provide detailed updates on flood mitigation efforts on the roadways under their jurisdiction.
