Flooding in Ayutthaya has affected 7 districts, while the Hua Laem community and residents around Ayutthaya island have been hit hard. Water levels surged 1-2 meters in just one week, forcing locals to use boats exclusively for medical visits and shopping.
On 28 Sep 2026 GMT+7, flood conditions in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province began to spread widely, especially affecting communities along canals and rivers. Roads in riverside neighborhoods started to become cut off after the Chao Phraya Dam increased its downstream water release to 1,850 cubic meters per second. Continuous rainfall compounded the situation, impacting 7 districts, 95 subdistricts, 479 villages, and 20,173 households across Sena, Phak Hai, Bang Ban, Bang Sai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Bang Pa-in, and Bang Pa Han districts. One fatality was reported in Sena district.
Reporters surveyed the area around Ayutthaya island and found that water levels continued rising steadily following ongoing discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam, resulting in increased water volume around the island in the Chao Phraya River.
In communities outside the island, such as Hua Laem community, Village No. 4, Tha Wasukri subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, water levels in the Chao Phraya River have risen high enough to overflow the banks, flooding riverside homes along the river and city canals fed by the river. Dozens of houses were submerged, and water levels rose enough to flood interior community roads. Wooden footbridges were initially built to cross the flooded streets but were soon submerged as water kept rising, forcing residents to use boats for transportation.
Mrs. Saifon recounted that the water rose very quickly, reaching several meters within just 5-7 days, especially affecting riverside homes. The wooden bridges provided by the Ayutthaya Municipality were soon submerged after only a few days. Residents living along the city canals experienced floods of 1 to 2 meters. This year, water rose faster though the flood took longer to arrive, especially where the river meets the city canals, where the water flow was particularly strong.
Mrs. Sodsri Netthip, aged 72, who needs her family to row her out by boat to see a doctor, said that initially she considered not going out due to flooding, but when her medicine ran out, she had to brave the waters. The flood has lasted 5-7 days and rose rapidly by meters, making life very difficult and forcing reliance on boats.
Meanwhile, the Ayutthaya Municipality has distributed boats to residents to serve as transportation during this period to ease their difficulties and is preparing to provide further assistance in other areas.
