In Phuket, a 28-year-old French man was seriously injured after shooting himself at a shooting range in Kathu district. Emergency responders quickly performed CPR before transporting him to the hospital. Authorities are investigating the true cause.
At 14:45 on 28 Sep 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Natthayan Suphanpong, an investigator at Kathu Police Station, received a report from staff at the Kathu shooting range on Wichitsongkram Road, Kathu subdistrict, that a foreign tourist had shot himself and was critically injured inside the range. Along with Police Colonel Chalermchai Hunsawat, Kathu Police Chief, patrol officers, the investigation unit, and rescue teams from Kathu Municipality and Phuket Kusoldharm Foundation rushed to the scene.
The scene was a shooting practice range in front of the shooting booths. They found a foreign man lying in a pool of blood on the ground, breathing faintly. Emergency responders urgently performed CPR before rushing him to Vachira Phuket Hospital. He was identified as William Gil, 28, French national, who had been shot once in the head and was critically injured.
According to Krisna Chanthaphirom, the shooting range supervisor, before the incident, the French tourist had purchased 10 bullets and began target practice, firing about 4-5 shots. Then he shot himself once in the head, causing serious injury. The cause remains under thorough investigation to ascertain the facts.
