The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning about rising water levels in Tha Yang and Kaeng Krachan districts, Phetchaburi Province. Residents living downstream of the spillway, along the Phetchaburi River banks, and in low-lying areas are urged to closely monitor the water situation and move belongings to higher ground.
On 29 Sep 2026 GMT+7, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) warned that water levels in the Kaeng Krachan reservoir are rising at a rate of 2 cm per hour, posing a risk of overflow at the spillway. Discharge through the spillway will be controlled to not exceed 100 cubic meters per second. Water levels in the Phetchaburi River downstream of the dam remain stable but the area downstream of the spillway will be affected before the water reaches the river. Residents and businesses in the spillway downstream area, along the Phetchaburi River banks, and in low-lying areas of Kaeng Krachan and Tha Yang districts are advised to monitor the situation closely, move belongings to higher ground, relocate vehicles, secure important documents, beware of electrical hazards, and care for vulnerable groups. For assistance, contact local leaders such as the subdistrict headman or village chief.
DDPM has collaborated with mobile network providers AIS, True, and NT to send warning messages via the Cell Broadcast system about the rising water levels.
