The Chao Phraya Dam continues to hold water discharge at 2,500 cubic meters per second, causing floodwaters to overflow into communities behind the dam across more than five subdistricts, affecting over 3,176 households. Meanwhile, an elderly woman deeply distressed by the flooding also lost her state welfare card rights.
On 2 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Kamron Imnoei, head of the Chainat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, reported that flooding in the Chao Phraya basin continues to expand. Recently, water from the Chao Phraya River has overflowed into residential communities behind the Chao Phraya Dam in more than five subdistricts: Bang Luang, Taluk, Had Asa, Phonangdam Ok, and Phonangdam Tok in Sapphaya District, Chainat Province.
The Chainat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center reported preliminary figures showing over 3,176 households affected and more than 9,566 rai of agricultural land damaged.
Due to the flooding, many residents have evacuated to live on the Maharaj canal embankment road, with some relocating livestock to safer areas. Local administrative organizations in the flood-affected areas are rapidly installing raw water tanks, toilets, electrical systems, and providing security to assist residents as initial relief measures.
Mrs. Kamnueng, a resident of Village 3, Phonangdam Ok Subdistrict, Sapphaya District, Chainat Province, one of the flood victims, said the current flooding forced exhausting efforts to move belongings despite prior warnings. Although flooding occurs yearly, residents never get used to it. This year was better as agencies issued early warnings, allowing some to gradually pack up, unlike last year when a breached water barrier caused sudden damage. She expressed frustration that her state welfare card was revoked due to debts exceeding 100,000 baht, unlike others. She sells snacks at markets, owns one motorcycle and a pickup truck used for transporting goods; without the vehicles, she can't work. During floods, she must travel to areas not flooded to sell goods since she has no salary and cannot remain idle.
