Ayutthaya Hard Hit: Communities in Bang Pa-in District Flooded Over Head Height, Residents Rely Solely on Boats

In Ayutthaya, rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River combined with inflows from the Pa Sak River have caused the riverbanks to overflow, flooding riverside communities by over one meter. Residents rely exclusively on boats for transportation.

On 2 October 2026, reporters covered the flooding situation in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province following the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province increasing its downstream water discharge from 2,500 cubic meters per second due to increased inflows. This led to rising water levels in the Noi River and several tributary canals.

Especially in Bang Pa-in District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, floodwaters from the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers combined, causing the Chao Phraya River level in front of the Bang Pa-in District auditorium to rise.

In Village No. 1, Ban Len Subdistrict, Bang Pa-in District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, a community located along the Chao Phraya River, floodwaters have breached the riverbanks, submerging the area with water over one meter deep. Residents must use boats to travel, while Prasat Thong Municipality has set up a boat pier and provided boats for service. Cars and motorcycles are parked along Highway 3477 between Ayutthaya and Bang Pa-in.

Ms. Yupin Pongsawan, 62, a local resident, said the community has been flooded for over two weeks. She has closely followed the Chao Phraya Dam’s discharge warnings, aware that releases would exceed 2,500 cubic meters per second, with water levels rising daily. Homes along the river are less than 50 centimeters from flooding the second floor, so residents are preparing wooden supports to raise their houses, especially during evening high tides that complicate travel. The municipality's boats are the only means of transport, and floodwaters in the riverside community have reached about 1.70 meters.
