Flooding Persists 20–45 cm on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road in Front of SWU Ongkharak

After the sandbag barrier collapsed, the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road in front of Srinakharinwirot University Ongkharak remains flooded with water depths between 20 and 45 cm. This affects traffic heading toward Nakhon Nayok and Bangkok. Authorities recommend using Highway 33, Suwannasorn Road (Hinkong–Nakhon Nayok), as an alternative route.

Reporters covered the flood situation on the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road in front of Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) Ongkharak campus after the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation issued a Cell Broadcast warning at 21:41 on 4 Oct 2023. The alert noted floodwaters exceeding 30 centimeters, making the road impassable for cars and small vehicles. Travelers to Nakhon Nayok were advised to use Suwannasorn Road (Hinkong–Wihardang) instead.

Field inspection revealed that officials from the Bang O Highway District had originally placed sandbags more than 200 meters long and about 50 centimeters high to prevent water from overflowing onto the road. However, around 20:00, local residents dismantled the barrier and removed the sand, causing floodwaters to rush swiftly across the road into the Rangsit Prayurasak Canal. Several motorcycles stalled as they passed through the strong currents. Drivers are urged to exercise special caution.

Mr. Watcharin Banjongsap, deputy head of the Khlong Yai Subdistrict Administrative Organization and former village headman, explained that local residents had suffered from stagnant floodwater for over 10 days, which had become foul-smelling and caused extensive damage to belongings soaked in the water. Daily activities such as buying food and sanitation were very difficult, causing significant stress. Because this area is a low point and natural water catchment, allowing water to flow across the road for just 2–3 days would gradually reduce the flood level. He requested understanding from authorities to place warning signs and traffic cones to alert drivers to proceed with caution instead of closing the road.

Most recently, the Nakhon Nayok Highway District of the Department of Highways updated that at km 41+800 on Highway 305 in front of SWU Ongkharak at 08:00, small vehicles should avoid the route due to the collapsed sandbag barrier. Floodwaters remain on the road surface at depths of about 20–45 cm. Travelers heading toward both Nakhon Nayok and Bangkok are advised to use Highway 33, Suwannasorn Road (Hinkong–Nakhon Nayok), as a detour.

For vehicles that must pass through the flooded area, those heading toward Nakhon Nayok should keep left, while those heading toward Bangkok should keep right.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
