The Department of Health Service Support (DHSS), together with police and local administration, conducted an inspection of a nursing home in Nonthaburi Province. They found 81 beds, exceeding the authorized number. Patients shouted that they were being confined and revealed that chains and handcuffs were hidden beside the stairs.
At 10:00 a.m. on 8 October 2026, Dr. Sirisak Thitidilokrat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, along with Mr. Supachai Singho, Director of Health Service Support Center 4 (HSSC4), Dr. Paripon Juljerim, Nonthaburi Provincial Public Health Doctor, and the Ministry of Public Health’s psychological support team, as well as officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Police Colonels Chokchai Khana Charoen and Chayachai Nattanakan, commanders of Nonthaburi City Police Station, and local administrative officials, visited and inspected a nursing home operating as an elderly care facility or a dependency care center located on Soi Revadi 22, Tiwanon Road, Mueang Nonthaburi District, Nonthaburi Province. The facility was suspected of not meeting the legally required patient care standards.
Upon arrival, officials rang the bell and requested to inspect inside. Staff from the elderly care center came out to unlock the gate and allowed only the officials to enter, prohibiting media personnel from entering or photographing inside. Thus, observation was limited to the outside only.
Mr. Supachai Singho, Director of Health Service Support Center 4, said that they coordinated with this elderly care center to request an inspection. It is initially known that this location has a permit to operate as an elderly care facility only at this site. Regarding information about one or two other elderly care buildings for women in the Revadi area, details remain unclear. Further inspections will be conducted, and if any operations are found to be unlicensed, legal action will be taken.
Before the inspection, Mr. Supachai reported to the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mental Health that the elderly care facility is suspected of violating the Healthcare Facilities Act. The original permit application authorized only 9 beds, but preliminary checks found a total of 81 beds available for patients. This operation focuses on verifying the validity of the license, actual service conditions, bed capacity, and related networked buildings to gather facts for legal prosecution as appropriate.
Initially, while reporters waited outside the building, 2-3 patients inside attempted to shout for help. They waved and claimed they were being abused and confined. They said that handcuffs and chains used to restrain patients were hidden beside the stairs.
